How to Achieve Anything You Want in Life: 3 Principles for Success
If you’ve ever wondered how to achieve anything you want in life, you’re certainly not alone. There are gallons and even barrels and barrels of information out there about success, achievement, wealth, health, and personal growth. Some of it sounds more tantalizing than others. But you don’t want the icing; you want the real cake.
The truth is that the principles behind meaningful achievement aren’t particularly new. People have been using them for centuries to build businesses, improve their health, create wealth, and accomplish things that once seemed impossible.
So, instead of reinventing the wheel, let’s strip away the fancy toppings and look at three simple principles that have repeatedly helped people turn intentions into results: Diligence, Endurance, and Patience.
Diligence: The First Step to Achieving Your Goals
What is Diligence?
Now diligence means hard work. We will define it as the sweat and blood by which things get done so excellently. Some people are looking for an easy break in life, and that is exactly why they amount to nothing. I have discovered this principle functioning in all areas of life. I paid the price and suffered pain in order to build big muscles in the gym when I was in my 20s. I was admired for my body form and turned heads everywhere I went. Even so, in my 40s, I pushed myself to run an average of 10 miles twice each week. I felt like a battle-hardened Navy SEAL. Ha ha.
What is Diligence Used For?
Diligence is simply the price of hard work every human has to pay to achieve greatness. Note that this requires action. You simply cannot lie in bed and read books about running marathons or building businesses alone. At the end of the day, the rubber has to meet the road. And there’s no easy way out of this solid principle of grit.
If you’re wondering how to achieve anything you want in life, this is where the theory has to become action.
Who Needs Diligence?
You know who you are. If you’d admit that you haven’t gathered the mental fortitude for achieving your goals, wait one moment. The most important step for you is to START. Yes, begin NOW — today. Get the momentum going with the easiest baby steps. You’re reprogramming your subtle mind, and your efforts will compound each evening into your subconscious mind. Hey, you’re simply telling yourself, you’re an ACTION TAKER. This is the first step of turning hard work into success.
Endurance: Keep Going When Things Get Difficult
What is Endurance?
You might say diligence and endurance sound alike. Yes, diligence is the first speed (or gear) in a manual transmission. Endurance is the next. Endurance is the ability to bear the pain that results from taking action. Now, this is where most people quit. And you’re not most people, are you? You are YOU! I’m talking to a unique being who’s reading and processing this stuff. Although you’re not a robot, you now know that PAIN is an important component of success. If this stuff is absent, and if you’re not pushing through with endurance, success will remain a pipe dream for you.
What is Endurance Used For?
Endurance is a universal principle. Nature rewards endurance. Haha (giggling while writing). The universe becomes better through a process called natural selection. The best parts of the farm are gathered as a harvest. The other fruits that failed to endure the weather, pests, etc. are effectively removed and incinerated.
Who Can Develop Endurance?
Can you learn this stuff? You love ice cream, right? How long can you hold a cold and leaky cone for? You’re enjoying this stuff so much that the incentive to continue in the midst of discomfort becomes a no-brainer. Because endurance is a muscle, the longer you hold your hand to the fire, the better you’ll become at holding it a little bit longer on the next try. Simple as that.
Patience: The Secret to Long-Term Success
What is Patience?
Now patience might bring about some mixed feelings. Introverts could potentially be a little more patient than some extroverts. One of the such introverts I know is Warren Buffett. The Oracle of Omaha is able to patiently wait until stock opportunities come around, then he swings and hits. Patience is what you DO after you begin with DILIGENCE and ENDURANCE. Remember that if you place it first above the others, its name changes to Procrastination. It also becomes Lazy along the line.
What is Patience Used For?
Patience is the core universal stamina used for reaping big rewards. As you take action on your goals, you may hit a snag. Endure this wilderness and keep on going. Patience means you’re still moving forward but HOPING for the certain reward at the turn of the corner. It has been misunderstood as standing still. No. Patience is believing and hoping for the best while you’re still digging for oil — enduring the hard, unbearable earth crust.
Patience is also a major part of understanding how to achieve anything you want in life, because worthwhile results rarely appear overnight.
Who Can Learn Patience?
You too can be patient. If others have this virtue, then so can you. Because what is possible for one is also possible for others. Make up your mind that you’re not going to change course. Keep digging in the same spot. Are you trying to dig at many different online opportunities for a breakthrough in side-hustle income? Just learn the art of FOCUS. Stay on one thing. And even if it’s not the THING, it’ll be the thing that leads to the THING.
A Few Parting Words on Achieving Anything You Want
If you really want to understand how to achieve anything you want in life, don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be. Start with diligence. Develop endurance when things become difficult. Then allow patience to give your efforts enough time to produce results.
You don’t have to master all three principles today. You simply need to begin. Take the first step, keep moving, and give yourself permission to grow along the way. Your results may not arrive tomorrow, but consistent effort has a funny way of turning small steps into something much bigger.
Which of these 3 principles — Diligence, Endurance, or Patience — do you think is the most essential ingredient for achieving your goals? Share your thoughts in the comments below. I’d love to hear which one speaks to you most, my friend.
